Hey guys, I'm looking at getting an SSD tomorrow when I make a run over to Microcenter. My question is, do SSDs last long "enough" for an average user? I've read in many places that SSDs, especially the one I'm looking at can fail "quickly" compared to other high end SSDs. I want a cheap one with good storage to price ratio and think the Samsung 840 250GB is the right option for me. I'll be using it for gaming, school, programming, graphic/game design. Is this the right decision/option for me?

I should have said this before, but I'm more concerned with just getting an SSD with good storage. As of now I have a HDD and any SSD is leaps and bounds ahead of it lol.

You must have read a few of the early Samsung 840 reviews. Their estimates of the 840 triple level cell (TLC) memory p/e cycles were incorrect. Samsung did not agree with the early hardware reviews but never published any actual estimates. Hardware Info has been conducting a torture test of two Samsung 840's. Here is the link to the article and updates:

I think you'll be in for a surprise.
