Good Day should i follow the specs of the CPU for the RAM type? for example intel core-i7 3970X has maximum up to 1600 mhz what should i do for this? should i go with 2400 mhz? c'uz i go with x79 platforms with 64 GB of RAM and i doubt with the frequency of the RAM. Help me for this. i will use msi big bang xpower 2 and it carry up to 2400 mhz for ram frequency but cpu 3970X has only 1600 mhz memory type. help to figure this out for good. tnx and God Bless.

Hi,
The memory speed can be increased and the CPU does support speeds over 1600.
But I'm not sure if it's worth the extra price taking into account the gain in performance.
Any setting over the default one means OC-ing and implies higher load/temperatures, and shorter components life.
Choosing 1866 MHz RAMs would be the best option, in my opinion.
This article will help (even if it's for LGA 1155):

Take the time for reading all pages.
