I built my rig about 2 years ago and have updated a few components here and there but it has performed great. It was my first build but it turned out pretty good.

The other day it went down (no blue screen) I have not been able to get it running again. The first time I tried to reboot it fired up but as it was booting up it went down again. After that, there was no response from the power button. At this point I made an educated guess that it was a power supply problem so I got myself a new one which I just installed. I also got a AVR just incase it was a power line issue. Booted to my CD drive (figured since I was under the hood I'd install a new SSD and do a clean install) and it was a ways into the install process, about 5 min, when it went down again. And now when I turn it on, it doesnt make it past the boot screen before it goes down.

My next guess is motherboard but that is completely a guess. Anyone have any thoughts on what could be wrong, ways to fix it?

Could be a bad capon the mb or the CPU is over heating. Check that the fan is moving and the cooler on tight. Also if your mb has built in video chipset.
Try bare boning it to just onboard video and one ram stick and just the keyboard and mouse. Most pc will shut down for over heat or dead short.
