I have been looking at the new graphic cards and a lot has changed since I bought my GPU in 2008. I want to replace the GPU that died but I have no idea what I should buy or how much I should spend. Suggestions, advice, or comments are appreciated.

P.S. My system worked fine for my purposes so I can hold off upgrading for awhile. At any rate I will give my desktop to my sister after I build my next desktop.

My home built system has the following:
Mother Board: Intel G31 Express Chipset MSI G31M3 CPU: Intel Core
2 Duo E4700 2.6 GHZ
Memory: DDR2 2GB x 2= 4GB
Graphic Card: XLR8 Performance
Edition PNY GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB died and needs to be replaced
Display: Acer AL2216W
Sound Card: Diamond Multimedia Xtreme Sound PCI card
Speakers: Creative A220 ATX
Power Supply: Corsair TX 750
Hard Drive: WDC ATA 500 GB
DVD/CD: Two Sony Optiarc DVD RW AD
7200S ATA
Multimedia Card Reader: Two 2.0 USB, Smart Media/XD, SD/MMC, MS/MS
Pro, Compact Flash I/II
O/S: 32 bit Windows 7 Home Edition Cable Modem: Arris TM722
Wireless Router: CISCO Linksys One Touch
Use: I like to play Adventure games and use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) the most.

You could save a few dollars by dropping down but, frankly, the cards that are better suited to your needs are now overpriced and getting rare.
At most you could save maybe $20, if you look for a AMD HD7750, but, given the known hassles of switching between makers I think you'd be better off all round by getting the GTX650 you linked to.
BTW, that card is quite powerful, you might consider branching out into other, more graphically demanding entertainments ;) .

Mutant_Guy suggested the GTX 650Ti. Is it the same GPU you suggested? I will check it out.
Thank you

I found this one Gigabyte GeForce GTX 650 OC 1GB GDDR5 PCI-Express 3.0 2xDVI-D/HDMI/D-SUB SLI Ready Graphics Card GV-N650OC-1GI for $109. Is it the same one you mentioned?

It's an overclocked card so should be closer to the faster 650Ti in performance, and should offer a substantial improvement in gaming.
That said, what do you mean 'adventure games'? If you're playing point and click games or text adventures then the GTX650 is far more than you'll ever need, games of that type will run more than happily off even a low end card.

Adventure games are point and click (not hidden objects.) The new adventure games I play have a variety of graphic styles and video segments but not text only. I used to play World of Warcraft. The new adventure games graphics look the same to me. If I don't need a GTX650, what other GPU do you think will work with my system.

I think I should buy the GTX650 anyway as you suggested. I plan on building another desktop to replace my current system and wouldn't need another GPU. I would rather have the capability to play those "graphically demanding entertainments" than not. Thank you for your assistance.
