You should be able to simply format the drive to remove an operating system. Windows installation media facilitates this task during setup of Windows as a clean installation, step 6 and 7 of this walkthrough.

If your system was configured as a multi-boot environment, you should be able to successfully remove the partition from another active operating system. Instructions for Windows 8 and Windows 7 are very similar; there is a video walkthrough available here.

If the boot files were located in the other operating system partition, you may need to recreate the Boot Configuration Database for Windows using the BootRec.exe tool and the /RebuildBCD command. Instructions on running BootRec.exe from your installation or recovery media are available here.
