Hi guys, I have been playing borderlands 2 lately and I just keep getting these stupidly low framerates. I know it couldnt be bottleneck because my CPU and GPU's are fine and work with all other games. I have done the dynamic shadows tweak, the MemoryBudget tweaks and PhysX tweaks and yet still I get these terrible framerates.

It usually happens when I am in areas filled with enemies. Any suggestions?

Build here:

CPU: Intel i5 3570k OCed to 3.9
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7850 x2
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB[strike][/strike]
MOBO: Asus Mobo, can't remember details but around $160
Power Supply: Corsair Modular 650 W
SSD: Corsair Force Series 3 120GB
HDD: Western Digital Black Caviar - where the game is installed.
Case: Corsair 650D

All my other games work fine, BF3, Skyrim, Fallout 3, Bioshock Infinite, Dishonored, Crysis 3, CS:GO

Solution
No worries guys its fixed!!I had a feeling something just could not be right so I deduced it to be a problem with the engine. So I went into my My Gmes/Borderlands 2/Config/ folder and deleted everything. Ran the launcher, put my settings to the original - Everything As high as it could go, excluding physx and VOILA!!! Problems solved!

yep I am running it with physx on low (not sure how to turn it off completely) and with view distance on low, whenever I move into an area with enemies, the frames drop considerably.

Are your drivers up to date / latest application profiles for CrossFire? And I assume you are running an updated legal copy of the game?

I have seen elsewhere someone having problem with CrossFire when BL2 was in Windowed-Fullscreen(looks the same) instead of Fullscreen.

Sounds like a CPU bottleneck. Check your temps, core speed, and load while in-game. Maybe it's not seated correctly and is throttling.

Also PhysX Low in BL2 = off.

Hey, Im having the same problem in BL2. When you say you deleted the config folder, which one? the one with just the GearboxEngine.cfg or the "Engine" folder with a bunch of crap in it? or something else entirely?

BTW its installed using steam so its all in the SteamApps>common>Borderlands 2 folder

Oh all the engine configuration files are stored in the directory I posted. The game installs itself in the steam folder but you configure it through My Documents. Just go to the directory I indicated before and delete everything.

Cool thanks, but Im looking in the My documents folder and i have this:
C:\Users\FcknDrrn\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 2

Within the BL2 folder under my games, theres 3 folders:
Binaries
LauncherData
WillowGame

Theres a config folder in WillowGame, im assuming this is what you mean? Im not a scrub im just makin sure ha

I tried turning Physx to low and the game runs great. In and out of combat the frames are consistently 60 per second (locked with my monitor because of texture tearing for this game). Ill try this and see if I can turn up the settings. From other stuff Iv read on other forums this game must to be really terribly optimized, a GTX570 and your card should laugh at this game

Game is poorly optimized even today. Probably engine limitation. For the record im on 3.7k 2500k and oc 670. Game runs fine but there are some scenes i drop bellow forty fps ( every eye candy maxed out )

I'm getting drops down to 30 fps in fighting scenes with an i5 750 @ 3.7 and a GTX 970. I started playing the game back when I had an HD 5870 and I swear the performance is the same if not worse. I really don't get it, it's a UE3 game and it should be stable 60 fps no matter what.

I just found this thread after searching why I'm getting such terrible fps. I just got a GTX 970 today, every game is running as smooth as butter on max settings. On BL2 I'm getting 40 fps just looking out in the distance and less than 40 when in heavy combat.

I have a 2600K at 4.6GHz and 2x GTX 980s in SLI and I get shit FPS as well. 250+ in the menus, then 100-130 in the early areas of the game, then it drops to 30 fps in the first little city. I feel like I'm on an Xbox 360 or something.

I think I fixed my FPS issue.

1) I needed to uninstall my logitech gaming software and completely replace my logitech G19s gaming keyboard for a different brand (got a Razer). The g19s screen apparently steals GPU resources even when you have it set not to (enhanced graphics de-checked) and even when the software is not loaded. Doing this fixed my FPS issues in close-range firefights. Previously my FPS would drop to 10-20 fps in firefights, and now it stays up at 60-80.

2) I had to turn PhysX down to "low". Previously, having a lot of enemy constructs such as shelters, buildings, flags, and their decorations (colored triangle flags on a rope) would cause my fps to drop into the 40s. I get a 15-20 fps improvement in these cases now.
