Hello there, Tom's Community. I'd like to ask if you could please review this prebuild I've quickly come up with and perhaps recommend a PSU (and cooling if deemed necessary) since if I'm not mistaken that is the only thing missing.

i5 2500k 3.3ghz (Want to overclock to 4.3-4.6Ghz if possible.)

Club HD 7870 2gb Tahiti

Corsair 16gb 1600mhz CL11

ASRock P67 Pro3 (Will this motherboard support possible future HDD->SSD upgrade?)

Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm 4TB (From the older PC.)

Any suggestion is much obliged!

Kind regards,
That Sydney Guy

Hello and thanks for the quick reply, darkther. About 1000 in USD maybe a bit more but no more than 1100 USD. Do you think CPU Cooler is worth it? Also, is 620W the minimum safe amount or can I use a 480 Be Quiet! PSU for instance?

The CPU cooler is bang for the buck! Liquid cooling is great and efficient but too expensive. A 500 Watt PSU is minimum for that build, so I put a 620 watt will be helpful in future upgrades.
Can you please mention the games you will be playing and at what resolution?
And also 16gb RAM isn't of much use for gaming, so 8gb will be absolutely fine for you.

I mainly plan to play heavily modded Skyrim and Fallout: New Vegas, might have a go at few FPSs I missed (CoD, Crysis 3), Bioshock 2 and Infinite, Witcher 2, Starcraft 2 just to name a few.

Take the part picker builds with a grain of salt. They tend to have you run around to vendors and dont show in-store price vs on-line price very well. Given the games you plan on playing the build above is just fine. I'd have you look at the build below as well. It comes with a top end card, 3 free games, and will let you max out AA.

1>500R is way better than HAF 912 plus its on sale.
2>HX650 is much better than the CX series 600 Watt PSU, you might be doing SLI in the future. There will be no need to replace the PSU.
3>ASrock Extreme 4 is just a few bucks more and will fit in his budget plus its better too.
4>There are some deals on certain GPU, you could have a look on them on Newegg. And yeah you can buy the Gigabyte HD 7970 if you like.

Alright then, thanks for suggestions, darkther and loops. Darkther, is your second build good for gaming but with 7870 2gb instead? Also, is there a cheeper case alternative to 500R? I've stated my budget but if I can get just as good a machine, I'd like to reduce it.

1. The 912 is fine. I like the case you picked but it cost more and extra cost will do little in game.
2. I'd advise against CF 7970 at this point. So he does not need more PSU. I would even argue that SLI/CF as an upgrade path is generally a bad idea. By the time a 2nd 7970 would be a need to run a game at common resolutions there will be a single card solution that looks better than a 2nd 7970. If you had a gtx 580 right now would you buy another one or sell it and get a 670/680? Then there is the whole micostutter issue.
3. As for the Mobo, sure keep spending and you get more things, but in this case there would be no in game impact for the money spent.
4. The 670 is a fine card. THe 7970 is just as good (better) and it comes with games he plans on getting...gets more for the money.
5. You need to add 30 bucks to your build if he does not live next to a Micro Center (in store price only) and God help him keep track of all his stuff from all the vendors on that list.

If you are considering cutting cost then the GPU to get would be 7870 xt: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131484. If you are gaming at 1080p there is very little point in going past this card. I have it with a 24' monitor and max out BF3; Skyrim modded; TR; Bioshock; Planetside; and a slew of other games.

You could then add a SSD.
