Should I wait for Haswell? 800 pc budget.

I am building a pc for the first time and had settled on the i5 3570k cpu. With news of Haswell chips releasing soon I was wondering if I should simply wait.

My worry is that, while the cpu price may increase 10% or so, the motherboards may increase in price more than that bringing me above my budget. Does anybody know if this is so?

Is it worth being a late adopter to the 1155 socket, tried and true products, or spending more on the 1150 socket motherboard and cpu and paying more for maybe a 10-15% increase in performance.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Here's the way I see it:

(1) Haswell is a real world 6-7% gain over Ivy

(2) Ivy isn't getting any cheaper when it hits, and haswell will be more expensive for sure.

(3) LGA 1155 is a dead socket

(4) For $800 budget, do you want to spend $400 of it on CPU/MB combo?

(5) AMD's current socket (AM3+) will be valid through steamroller

(6) Top end AMD CPU/MB combo would run you about $275. You could get a very effective setup for $200.

(7) CPU is less important than GPU for most gaming applications

(8) You won't notice 3 fps difference between AMD and Intel.

I will allow you to make up your own mind knowing that information.

EDIT: If you don't believe that Ivy won't get cheaper...look at LGA775 socket intel CPUs...some of them are still $200.

Its less than a month away, June 2nd. I would wait, if your concerns are correct then you should get a little extra savings on the older CPU and motherboard(It wont be much but many like newegg will run specials to clear inventory). However I would wait then get a i5-4670k CPU and Z87 motherboard. It seems worth waiting just over 3 weeks.

I've actually been looking into amd's offerings. Truth is I was planning on not buying my gpu for a few months, relying on the integrated gpu for light gaming until I have 300 or so for a 7950 (or waiting for the 8000 series).

I've been tempted by amd but I've noticed in some benchmarks the 3570k outperforms the 8350 by 40 fps or so in some cpu intensive games...

I was planning on relying on a seasonic x 650w as well. the amd using more power worries me.

As far as overclocking goes I was planning on installing a aftermarket heatsink at a later point to oc.

So, over the month I'll have some decisions to make. I'm sure either offering is quality though.

If I decide to go intel/haswell it really depends on the price of the mb really. if not, ivy bridge.

if I can find a decent priced amd motherboard with integrated graphics for the interim maybe that will help me decide.

I would expect Haswell to sell for $15 - $20 than Ivy Bridge when it is released. I would guess by then Intel will drop Ivy Bridge prices by $5.

Haswell motherboards on average will probably cost anywhere from $15 - $25 more than their comparable Ivy Bridge motherboards. Premium Haswell mobos will probably sell for $40 - $60 more. But that is just my guess.
