I have been using Hauppauge's HVR-1250 tv card on my Dell Desktop with W7 for 3 years now, and just recently found it no longer works with Windows Media Center on network TV channels. It receives only local PBS channels.
I am using Comcast in Annapolis MD.
Does anyone know if Comcast recently encrypted all their previously available basic cable programming. I suspect they may have to collect a digital box rental fee.
Thanks for your help

The Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1250 TV Tuner card has all three of the basic (US) tuners (NTSC, ATSC, and ClearQAM), so the fact that Comcast went digital shouldn't be an issue. The tuner is a hybrid, so it may be that just a simple rescan for channels is in order.

I didn't think Comcast (or any cable company) could force any customers of Basic Cable subscriptions into a user's fee for a set top box.

The first thing to do is make sure all your connections are tightened.
Next, rescan for all channels.
Finally, contact Comcast directly and verify any changes to the basic cable subscription. Let them know that you are no longer receiving the whatever local channels you're missing.
