Trying to make a decent gaming box. Suggestions to save money, or improve performance at the same price would help.

Nice build, you may however consider doing two things:

1. Get the Samsung 840 120GB Pro, it uses mlc instead of tlc, which is known to last a lot longer. It is also faster.

2. Replace the GTX 670 with GTX 660 SLI. I have made this decision too, and i am very happy with it. It offers more performance at a relatively good price. (You can always start with one and buy the other a month later or something) You could say that adding an extra GTX 670 later on is also a good idea, but i think graphics cards outdate too fast (250$+ is where performance becomes a moneysink)

That would make his system a lot slower, i wouldn't do that if i were you.

I'm assuming that you will be gaming at 1080p, and that the SSD isn't your only hard drive. I would stay away from dual card solutions at first, especially since you haven't listed the size of your Psu. The 7970 will outperform the 670 for about the same price. I'm a big fan of Asus boards in general, and actually own the one I listed.

You're right, it would. But since he cant afford a dual drive setup it makes more sense to buy an already cheaper high performance HDD and add a SSD later (which will only be cheaper then too)

Radeon HD 7970 and the GTX 670 have similar performance in games, but it depends on the game. The nVidia board has the benefit of less power usage.

Edit: Also, consider posting your location, because where i live the GTX 670 is significantly cheaper than the 7970.
