Hi all,

I recently installed a new Gigabyte ga78lmt-usb3 motherboard and re-installed my XFX Radeon HD 7850 (2GB) into the PCI-e slot. Unfortunately I am recieving no signal from the GPU. I am planning to RMA the card as I feel that it is dead but I would like an experts diagnosis of the problem beforehand. Here's what I have done so far to solve the problem:

- Tried with old GPU (no signal)
- Used HDMI and DVI ports (no signal)
- reset BIOS and CMOS (no signal)
- Disabled onboard graphics (no signal)

Here are my components:

CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 965
RAM: Kingston Hyperx Blu (2x4GB)
GPU: Radeon HD 7850 (2GB)
MOBO: Gigabyte GA78LMT-USB3
PSU: Coolermaster 500w

Thanks in advance for any help,
Callum.

Hi, I have a couple more suggestions to try.

1) ensure that the 6 pin PCIe power connector is connected properly to the card

2) in the bios look to see if there is a setting that says something like "primary video adapter" or "initialize video adapter first" and try to set it to PCIe

3) make sure the card is seated properly in the motherboard

Check the mb qal list to see if your CPU is supported. Also look at the mb bios rev sticker and check that the mb bios will post with your CPU or if you need a bios update. Also check for the 4-8 pin pci power plug is connected next to the CPU. If not next to the CPU it be on the edge of the mb.

Okay thanks so far guys. I have done all of the above with no better results. The settings in BIOS mean that the PCI-e slot takes priority over the integrated card if an external GPU is detected. Seeing as I can recieve no signal from the integrated card when the Radeon GPU is installed; surely the PCI-e slot cannot be the problem? Furthermore my CPU is definitely compatible and I am still able to use my computer provided that I use the integrated board.

Does this mean my GPU is dead?

(Also I need to reactivate my copy of Windows as I have changed several hardware components, would this be affecting anything at all? Just an afterthought.)

Reactivation of windows would not do this -- but on a side note, while you can try, you will likely have to buy another copy of Windows since you changed your motherboard. MS is usually lenient when it comes to HDDs, GPUs etc but they usually draw the line on a new MB
