i want to set up raid 0 on my pentium with a couple of maxtors i have laying around and will be using a couple of ata to sata converters to hook them up to the sata ports as i think this board only runs sata raid and not ide raid, i was wondering if the jumper settings on the drives make a difference or not? anybody have any idea on that or any experience with this board, to be specific mine is the second version of this board if that makes any difference, any help would be greatly appreciated

When you use the SATA Drive for the RAID, you don't need to set the jumper setting. You need go to the BIOS change the setting. Also you need download the RAID controller driver because the MB has the VIA chip, I add the link for that driver. http://www.via.com.tw/en/support/drivers.jsp

Also you need reinstall the OS, so you download the raid driver into the USB, setup the the HDD, install the OS, and at some point you neeed press the F6 Key install the raid driver from the USB, I add the link for how to. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oDT40ewh90

Here is more info for set up the RAID. http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/393

thanks i appreciate your help, have another question or two, are you sure this thing will boot off of a usb drive, im pretty sure the board has the option if i remember correctly but will xp even look for it or will it only even look for it on a floppy? my other question is that i was considering yanking this chip and putting it on a soyo p4s dragon ultra that i have, as this msi board that i have wont run the memory beyond 200mhz and its 400mhz memory and according to specs, both versions of this board 1 and 2 are supposed to support pc3200 memory, yet there is no option for it, only 333 and it wont even run at that, the soyo board will run it at 333, thats the max for that board and its supposedly quite the little overclocker, i would lose the hyperthreading as ive got a p2.8c northwood with hyperthreading, but i could potentially get 3.5ghz out the northwood, fsb max of 250 on soyo, plus the soyo does have built in raid and i was going to be using ide drives anyway, would be using ata to sata converters on the msi, and with no agp/cpu voltage control on the msi, supposed to be in the bios but on my board its not in there and have verified what board i have by looking at the board and found a screenshot of the supposed bios for this board, i am limited to a 10% overclock, i get 3.08 and the memory at 220mhz, so i guess my question would be do i tear this thing apart to risk attempting to get to 3.5ghz, or should i just stick with what i got, start over with a raid array and maybe try live update 5 to fix the bios, though i dont know if will actually add to the bios menu and have never flashed a bios before and dont want this whole thing to get messed up, note, this is not my first build or first time installing xp, this would be my first time trying raid and am fairly confident i can handle that, dont know about the bios thing though, whether that would fix things, whether it would be worth it to try or what, ive read alot lately and not exactly sure what to believe when it comes to making bios changes, have read that you can make your board completely useless on more than one site, sorry about the speech, any further insight you could provide would be appreciated....

You need boot the winxp from CD ROM, during the installation you will install the RAID driver by press the F6 key because 1) when you set the raid array you need reinstall the OS. 2) WinXP don't have any SATA or RAID drivers in it. ( Vista and win7/8 do have the SATA driver)

If the PC run fine you don't need to update the BIOS. It is true during update the BIOS if you do some wrong the PC will not boot again. But you have to go to the BIOS to change the storage mode or HDD setting to RAID mode so that you can set up the RAID 0. If you want to know how to set the BIOS setting you can find the info online.

yeah it runs alright, but like i said its running the ram slow, so thats where my other question came in, should i take it apart and build it up on the soyo board that i have (p4s dragon ultra) and shoot for a 3.5ghz clock and be able to bring my memory up to 333 from where its at now which is only 200, or technically 220, because its synching with the processor, 10% overclock on the processor and ive got 10% on the ram, but it is an older board with no hyper threading support, so if i did hit 3.5ghz or close to that it would just be that with no hyper threading vs where im at now which 3.08 + hyper threading, should i take a chance and shoot for 3.5ghz and bump my memory up to 333, and it has ide raid, or should i just go the raid route with my msi board, if u need to know specifically, this is a pentium 2.8c that were talking about, i.e. a northwood with hyper threading.
