Hey guys,

I record video gameplay to my 2T Western Digital My Book Essentials hard drive. It is getting kinda filled up and the write speed at 100 isn't the best. I can currently record 1080p @30fps on it. I want to record 1080p @90fps. What would you recommend as a hard drive. I was thinking like 2-3T. But I have no idea what brand or write speed/rpm would be the best. I have no idea what raid is or any of that hard drive technical talk. I would prefer for it to be external but then again I don't really know much about HDDs. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Around 100 is about what you would expect. If you want more than that you would need to grab an SSD. Though I warn you, working with uncompressed video results in huge file sizes so the space on your ssd would get filled up quite quickly.

I supposed you could use raid 0 to increase the speeds if you are willing to shell out the cash for the extra drive and possibly a raid card. Though I still think an SSD would be better, then just cut your recording sessions to fit the size of the ssd. Not sure what file sizes you are working with in what time frame. But going from 30fps to 90fps would be a tripling of video size IIRC.

What file sizes are you working with and what program are you recording with?

I am not looking for an ssd for that reason. SSD's are so expensive and so little space. Do you know any hard drives that have a higher write speed?
