I am trying to install Windows 7 on a Dell Insiron 1525 and it always says "Windows Setup could not configure Windows on this computer’s hardware" I have always tried the trick of reinstalling Windows Vista and it said the same thing, It had ubuntu on it though I have never encountered this problem after formatting the hard drive, I have no capabilities of resetting the BIOS because it says it doesn't recognize the software as its "Not from this machine" so I'm at a loss, any ideas?

As far as the bios goes I used a recovery disk and an external USB device to attempt to install a factory updated BIOS, is there another way without needing an archaic floppy?

Complete specs list ?

If Windows says that your hardware is not compatible with Windows 7, it's most likely true.

Did you try installing Windows XP ?
Did you enable AHCI mode in bios ?

I don't know how to enable AHCI in the BIOS, because everything I've tried I can't get into the BIOS setup, it's a Dell Inspirion 1525, 2gb of ram I believe and an Intel processor, I don't know the ghz.

I haven't tried xp since I don't have a disk anymore though I could attempt a hirem method. Thank for the posible solution, if I work's I'll let you all know otherwise I would still like other suggestions. I will also attempt an xp install though I fear it will have the same problem. It originally came with Vista on it and they put ubuntu on it and wanted it off because they didn't know what they were doing with it or how to resolve minor problems like opening word documents. So I'm just trying to put windows on it.
