I am getting my new gaming PC built very soon and have been debating between two companies for a very long time. I have the list of all the parts that I will be buying that I will link at the bottom of the post. The price of all the parts comes up to around $1450 USD. The two companies are IBuyPower.com and PCLand. PCLand is a local company nearby me which builds and repairs PC's and they are offering to build it for $1695. IBuyPower on the other hand is offering $1539. Do you think that I should get it built locally and pay the extra $150 because I don't want to deal with the hassle of shipping out my computer, paying $50 to ship it out and then having to wait a month before I can get it back. If any of you have ever bought an iBuyPower PC before, have you had any issues with it and is it a good idea to buy from them? Thanks.

If you must go with a system builder, there are many, many good ones out there. iBuyPower has done well for themselves. They are offering to build a PC for you for not much money (in my mind) and with that a warranty if something fails or doesn't work properly. I don't have first hand experience with them, but I would go with them, yes, even before the local guys (small business are having a hard time lately, especially PC builders-I should know, I am one, although for the workstation market and that is actually not doing that bad). Safer bet on the warranty though.

A warranty is nice but all parts come with one. Not to mention a local shop will do more to keep your business. On another note, I see people wanting a media center built for them and it's usually better money. I set the rigs up using amd apu's along with media portal and an IR remote system. There is a bit more work setting up a database to handle all there media but it's worth it.

You are right. Local should always be the first route to go as they do tend to have the best customer service. I am all for supporting small business, but you are spending a considerable (for most people) amount of money and iBuyPower didn't get into Best Buy's and Newegg for having bad service. Sorry if that confuses the issue, lol.

I wasn't endorsing Best Buy, I was just stating that enough people had good enough experiences that the company grew to reach the general public though a chain store. That said, I do not recommend Best Buy for any PC services, but then again, I can fix my own PCs.

Either way you wanna put it, it's comes down to this:

Shopping locally is great if you want something quick and can be serviced quick. On your local shop's reputation, I cannot say. Although I will say that local shops are obligated to behave better than big chains. Seeing as they are much more influenced by word of mouth in the area you live in.

Ibuypower I can judge. Overall I would place them with oems like dell. What you will get is decent. They have ok packaging so don't be surprised if something is damaged during shipping. Not to mention they like to use cheap power supplies and mediocre cases. Past that you may have to deal with defective parts, which is a pain because that's an additional cost. Sometimes what you get back will be a refurb. You would be surprised how many oems and computer building companies engage in this practice.

And when you got your rig from this company, before first boot, open your PC and check inside, it was reported many times that they forget attach cables, left parts not screwed and similar, nice service.
In such cases Dell is much better, at least you can open the box, pull your thing and connect and run,LOL.
