I'm asking this question on behalf of a friend.
My friend has an Xbox 360 and a PS3, he was thinking of selling one of these and adding some money to get a gaming PC instead.
This is a summary of what he's getting.
Core i3 3220
Gigabyte G61-HDSM2
8 GB Ram
720p Monitor
550W Supply
Club 3D HD 7870XT 2GB
He already has some optical and hard drives.

What he asked me was, will this build be able to play the new scheduled next gen games at 720p at high-ultra settings with little or no anti-aliasing. And if not, should he then opt for the next gen consoles.
I personally thought getting a PC would be better, but i would like an opinion from you, the gaming community.
Thanx

At 720p, it will rip thru most games without breaking a sweat.

But the problem will start (for all of us) after the game dev's start developing games using the massive power of say, the PS4's 8GB GDDR5 memory.

So IMO he is better off going next gen.

Well if money isn't an issue he should probably upgrade his parts if he wants them to run games with decent fps with decent graphics. Reason I say if money isn't an issue is because if you can build a nice rig, you will get better performance and better graphics out of the PC than the console, it's also very customizable.

So either stick with consoles, or use better parts than the ones he mentioned?

Honestly, yeah, unless he had plans to upgrade parts in the near future

Buying a next gen console will make more sense at this point.

As well as it being the easier solution.
