Help! FPS DROPS ON ALL GAMRS

Ever since I purchased my custom build PC I have experienced fps drops on most of the games I play. Even when I turn down the settings to improve my performance this does not seem to have an effect. Here are my specs.

if this problem cannot be resolved I will be getting a new CPU and Motherboard. I also want to know if the new CPU and Motherboard will be conpattable with my specs such as ram and power supply.


Thinking of upgrading to
CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4 ATX LGA1155

What do you mean by fps drop? What game/settings/fps are you getting? Watch gpu/cpu usage to see what they are doing during these fps drops. I really don't know why you would get an apu with that gpu. You would have been better off with a Phenom x4 965.

by fps drop i mean every few minutes my frames per second will drop to a point where it is nearly unplayable. When its running smooth I would say I'm around 60-80fps. When it drops it goes down to around 10 or lower fps. This happens also If i lower the quality of the game settings.

My GPU is not the problem as it averages around 30-40 degrees and I have never seen it higher than that. Concerning my CPU, I have seen it up to around 90+% usage. Which is obviously not great. I would upgrade to a better cpu if that will solve the problem but it seems to get a better cpu i will also need to buy a new motherboard aswell.

Actually, if your GPU averages around 30-40 degrees, there is likely a problem, it is not being used. It should at least reach into the 60C area while used in a game. High CPU usage means the game is likely wanting more CPU power.

You might want to monitor your GPU usage in a game and see if it is getting utilized or if it drops low from time to time.

So how can this problem be revolved? Upgrade my cpu? Is the cpu i currently have really not that great? I will check my gpu and cpu usage now

I just tested a bit in game. and when the frame drop occurred my gpu was 50C and my cpu usage was around 80+.

Does this mean my cpu is causing the problem?

Did you happen to check the GPU usage? If the usage drops, it is likely that is the case. When the CPU is at 80+%, it usually means at least one core is almost 100%.

It clearly is not showing good usage. Look on the right side of MSI afterburner, on the 2nd graph down, that is the GPU usage graph and it shows your percentage never goes much above 50% usage. That means your CPU is holding you back. Your CPU is showing it is what is holding things back.

It is possible that a virus or some other software is running in the background stealing power from the CPU to help push it so hard, but what ever is going on, the source of the problem is the CPU or what is happening on the CPU.

The CPU you have is an APU, meant as a low budget gaming system with a built in GPU. I don't know how well it works with discrete cards, but in some games, it shows to be quite poor. Look at this graph: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/neverwinter-performance-benchmark,3495-4.html

It appears games that need CPU power will run horribly on that APU (yours is a slightly better version than the one on the chart, but they are quite similar).

So I would benefit buying a better cpu? I hear the Intel-i5 3570 is quite good. But if i were to get that i will also need a new motherboard

Do you have any recommendations that should be fine with the specs i have now so i dont need to change the psu and such
