One of the two 500Gb discs of my Lacie external usb drive failed. There are two discs in RAID0 configuration (shown in Windows as 1Tb). The second drive in the RAID array failed and Windows did a chkdsk on the first one, finding some empty folders and wiped them. I think the data of that folders are on the (failing) second disc.

Now I got the array working again with the two discs and in Windows in the properties of the 931Gb disc, 847Gb is used. But when I check all the item (including hidden and system files) I see only 103Gb.

The folder that holds a lot of the 744Gb left is showing no files or folders.
I don't want to screw the rescue operation, so what is the best thing to do? Do another chkdsk (with both 500Gb shown as 1Tb)?

Thank you

The solution is to restore from your backups but I'm guessing you don't have any. With Raid0 it's especially important to make backups because if one drive fails you lose the data on both drives.

Step 1 for you is to backup what you have before you do anything else and be thankful you have anything to begin with. You got pretty lucky there.

Step 2 will be attempts at data recovery. There are several free programs that work well but because you are dealing with a raid0 - don't get your hopes up. Unless its a real easy recover most software doesnt work well on raids other than raid1. Recuva and Easeus are two such programs.

But isn't strange that in the properties of the disc there is so much data and not showing up in the folders?
Seems like the data is right around the corner...
