Hello All,
About 3 weeks ago a friend of mine got a Lenovo Desktop computer in which I installed a graphics card so that she could have dual displays. Randomly yesterday (without any changes having been made to the computer) one of the displays stopped working. Through troubleshooting I discovered neither VGA port (on the motherboard or graphics card) is working while the DVI still outputs signal fine. Any suggestions on how to get either of the VGA ports working again?

Here are some links to the hardware:

Desktop - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Graphics Card - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004N3BH0C/ref=oh_deta...

Thanks!

Do not use VGA ports if possible. Get DVI / HDMI / DisplayPort cables instead. The signal VGA transmits is analog, so it can cause some weird stuff with modern displays and graphics cards.

I will mention that to her however this option would be failry expensive because she would need to get a monitor with an HDMI port becuase her motherboard does not have a DVI port and there are no more PCI-E slots. Is there anyway that she could use one of the VGA's? Her primary monitor has been connected with DVI the whole time.

Well not really. Of course it's entirely possible that a surge or something has killed a VGA port on either end or the cable itself is finished. As I said, no way to know with VGA. With a discrete graphics card installed, all of your displays should be connected directly to it anyway and integrated graphics disabled manually from the BIOS. So I guess you could try that with some different adapters or DVI to VGA cables for instance.
