I want to do emulation for different systems, mostly older ones like NES and SNES and maybe Gamceube and PS1. This is mostly for the purpose of walkthrough videos and such. i am getting a motherboard that is compatible with AM3 AM2+ and AM2 CPUs. i currently have an AM2+ Phenom X4 9850 @ 2.5GHz. my current PC is an HP so i cannot overclock the Phenom i already have. my question is when i get the new board, should i keep the phenom i already have and overclock? or should i get a Phenom 2 X4 965? i know the X4 965 at regular speed is already over 3.0GHz. but if it's just as good of an option to overclock my 9850, i don't want to go and spend $100 for nothing.

well i'm on a budget, and i don't know when i'd be able to order the CPU. i'm ordering the board first so am i better of overclocking the 9850? i can get an aftermarket cooler.

Depends on how much overclocking you can do and if your motherboard can support it. If you are on a budget, grab the Coolermaster Hyper 212 cooler and overclock it. What is the model of the motherboard that you are buying?

ASRock A785GM-LE is the board. AMD 785G is the north bridge chipset.
