My buddy wants to sell his gaming PC to me since he doesn't use it anymore. He said I can take it home for 320, but I want to make sure it's a good deal.

The specs are as follows: Quad Core AMD Athlon II @ 3.3GHZ , 8 Gigs of RAM, 500gb of hard drive, asus m5a97 motherboard, GeForce gtx 650, 650 watt pSU.

He said this pc can run the latest games on high. Is this a good deal?

running the latest games on high is a bit off, unless it's not at 1080p. Medium will likely be the average for new games (though it depends on what frame rate you consider playable and what resolution you play at).

That said, it's not a bad deal. You'd have trouble getting better performance than that for under $400 new.
It comes with the case right?

for reference:

asus m5a97 is ~100$
athlon: idk probably like 70$ new
8gb ram: 50$
500 gb hdd: 50$
650w psu: depends on psu model
gtx 650: ~100$

in reality, hes cutting the price only a bit. when he says running games on high, its definitely not in 1080p for the latest games. itll work okay for low end games(a gtx 650 is close to an HD 7750, a low power consumption amd gpu)

the one advantage is, since the motherboard is am3+, if you want to upgrade the cpu at any point, you have options.

Yah it comes with pretty cool looking case. I don't plan on doing any intense gaming though. I have an average monitor and I just want to be able to play whatever game I want smooth and efficiently. I don't mind not playing the latest games on high either. I play WoW/SWtor a lot but the reason I want to buy his Gaming PC is to play the more demanding games like BF3 or Crysis 3.

for like ~400$ you can have this option, brand new...
and it will be a much better option to be honest, since the athlons are old stuff and will be powerless to run the new stuff.

my first opinion:

well most people doesnt really care about original OS... you can easily get a copy over net. home usage is not "that" restricted lol

i actually dont like either build. I'd rather pick it up used. OP's friend mobo is a 970 chipset board so it would be significantly more useful for overclocking, especially when its time to swap out the cpu. the 965 is great, but its only great when you can overclock it at a good margin. no point pairing it up with a low end am3+ mobo.
