Hey guys, I just finished setting up my new PC tonight finally! We ran into a couple roadblocks, but we were able to solve them. However, this new one has me stumped. I have my computer plugged directly into my wireless router with an ethernet cable, yet I cannot connect to the internet. It doesnt even recognize that anything is plugged in, it just says not connected to the interet. I ran troubleshoot and Windows says that I need to install a driver for my network adapter.

Seeing as I can't do that over the internet for obvious reasons, I am on my laptop trying to find drivers to save to a thumb drive and I can't find any. I have a Netgear wireless n150 wnr1000v2 and Windows 7 is my OS. All I can find on Netgear's website is firmware. Is that the same thing as drivers? If anyone can help me out I will be beyond thankful.

Firmware is similar to drivers, depends how it's installed. Firmware can also refer to things such as BIOS.

Did the ethernet adapter come with a driver CD?
Also, is the Ethernet port on your motherboard? If so, try looking through the motherboard driver CD for the Ethernet driver.

Your motherboard has a LAN card or chip on it. It is normal that the driver is not installed on a fresh build. Look up the drivers for your motherboard and you will find a LAN driver. My Asus driver looks like this: Realtek_LAN_V5782_6247_743_XPVistaWin7.
LAN is Local Area Network!

Hey thanks for the reply Matsushima. So do you have any idea what I need to do here? Windows just says Install a driver for the network adapter. I'm not exactly sure how to do that, nor can I find any drivers at all for this router, just firmware.

Is the Ethernet port on the motherboard? Most likely, it is not the router's fault and is probably the chip in your computer which is the Ethernet controller, and you need to install the driver for the Ethernet controller, not the router itself.

I believe that worked Matsushima. I was a moron and had never put the disc that came with my motherboard into the computer to install all the software that came with it. Put that baby in, let it run, and it installed some drivers and now I'm on the internet. Thanks a lot to all that helped. I don't know what I'd do without you guys here at Tom's.
