I just buy new PC.

Board: AsRock z77 Extreme4
SSD: OCZ vector 4 (plug at SATA3_0)
HDD: WD black 1TB (plug at SATA3_1)
DVD: DVD drive LG (plug at SATA2_2)

The problem is when I boot my PC it's hang for a while before boot to windows like it's try to detect DVD drive or read from it (even I disable boot from DVD drive in bios).

Both BIOS and windows can be detect DVD drive but it can't read any CD/DVD disk.

There bios config.

1) my bios can see my DVD Drvie (also in windows)

Usually when the dvd drive light flickers at boot up more than one or two times, it implies that you have left a disk in the tray.

Some later model cd/dvd drives could only read a minimum of 8x, it was a feature to try to stamp out piracy, you need to be able to burn at 2x or 4x so many manufacturers opted to make their cd/dvd drives minimum 8x hwever, there is burning software available to force the cd/dvd drive to burn at a lower speed despite the preset speed ratio so that feature was not supported by other manufacturers as the drive may become unstable and force the user to RMA the drive. Piracy not only includes selling counterfeit disks but also for home use as you are not supposed to make copies for your own self, even as a back up, assumedly.

Older CD & DVD disk that were created pre 2007 were actually only 2x and 4x so they couldn't be read by those modified cd/dvd drives.

With Windows x64, you may need to install 32 bit drivers for CD/DVD drives pre 2007. Check the drive label for the manufacture date.

You might try setting the Region type in the properties of the CD/DVD drive, they are usually set to "None".
Usually there are only 4 changes available so you'd need to be careful as to what is your region (country).
Sometimes, manufacturers of audio and DVD disk have a set region on the final product so they can't be shipped to other countries, many audio CD's have as do DVD movies disks, to stop users taking the disks out of the country... even blank disks sometimes have the region set (embedded in them)

Check the Region first before going to the trouble of re-install. The Windows 8 OS might not care about regions or the programers forgot to include it. The region is set on a chip on the actual cd/dvd drive and is only referred to by the OS from the registry entry.

edit - Otherwise, it might be the connection on the motherboard, the sata 2 connection may be reserved for other devices not including the CD/DVD drive. Check their website.

It is a common problem I doubt that AHCI would fix it. I have my CD/dVD set to AHCI raid with my hdd and I still have the same problem as yourself.

Your CD/DVD drive is a ram drive, if it was used as a ram drive whereby cd's or dvd's were used as ram then you won't be able to use the drive to read data disks. Not sure how to convert back to regular cd/dvd drive, I'll have to go check.

Edit 2 - if the drive is specific ram drive then it will only read CD RW and DVD RW disks.

Edit 3 - your drive is not Sata, it's IDE, you won't be able to set AHCI.
You could try an update of drivers, that might work.

There is not a lot of information about your csd/dvd drive, it seems to be pre 2005.

I got one similar and have tried a DVD-Ram disk but it can't be read by a non ram cd/dvd drive but regular cd/dvd disks can be read and written on a cd/dvd ram drive but only if they support -r, +r otherwise only RW disk types are usable.

I've probably confused you enough.

This not be a cause. I try to use DVD drive from old computer and it not work (same symptom).

I think this might be a cause problem, but I need to check that first.
Have any keyword for this one? I will read manual to find.

Thanks for your reply, and sorry to reply this late. I'm on working day.

Try an audio disk that is from a retailer and try a dvd disk that is also from a retailer.

If you had Multi-session enabled (inadvertently or on purpose), you'd need to close the session for them to work in a different Pc or cd/dvd drive otherwise they usually won't work on any tother PC or disk drive or even a player.

It's not an issue that has Never been fully resolved since Vista made its debut. At least with XP and Windows 98SE, there were never these problems. It all might come down to installing 32 bit drivers for the CD/DVD drive, as well as a firmware update. (Refer to the LG website for your make and model)

Edit - If it worked before and now it doesn't then it could be an issue with the drive itself, it might need to be replaced with a version that is SATA connection and manufactured after 2009.

I looking around and I just see BIOS always restore boot config to default setting after exit bios/restart PC.

And now I don't know why it's just Boot setting that always restore.

Any idea?

PS. I will take some video if you need. sorry for my English skill and thanks for the answer.
