Hi
I`ll vote for the Intel 3220 !

http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench2/search?dir=desc&q=4300&sort=score

Why ?
the best score for the AMD is :
AMD OC to 4300 Mhz -> 7655 score

Apr 05, 2013 To be filled by O.E.M. AMD FX -4300 4300 2 Windows 32-bit 7655

and the Intel stock CLOCK
Intel Core i3-3220 3292 Mhz -> 9670 score

I wonder what will happen if we compare OC-ed Intel 3220 :)

and since the Gaming for me is steam capabilities of the system -> 1 vote for the Intel 3220 :
And have a look on the memory performance too ......
there is the compare : http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench2/compare/1837275/1708208

Between the FX4300 and I3 3220, the I3 will be faster 95% of the time.

That being said, for $10 more than the I3 or $20 more than the FX4300, you can buy an AMD FX6350 ($139.99 at newegg) which will be as fast or faster than the I3 3220. In heavily threaded applications and games, the FX6300 (6350) will give I5's a run.

Btw, you mention you already have "Gigabyte 970 mother board"? I assume it's an AMD 970 chipset motherboard. If that is the case, unless you want to replace your motherboard you will have to stick with an AMD CPU.

I just cannot agree with buying a dual core in a time where all softwares are moving away from dual cores in support of 4+ core cpus. I am not a fan of the 4 core FX cpu's from amd as they are in all honesty often beat buy dual core intel cpu's. However the 6/8 core FX's are a completely different story. They dominate price/performance. Since you already have an AMD board I would go with a 6300 or 8320. and with a $30 cooler my 6300 at 4.5Ghz is significantly faster than any i3 at basically everything much closer to i5 territory.

Since this thread is more than 5 months old, you're probably not going to influence the purchasing decision here.
