Greetings. I recently got this budget Asus X54H as a temp laptop, and when I try to install any version of catalyst other than the Windows' generic one, the backlight will turn off and won't turn back on until I boot Windows with "last known working configuration" - which reverts the driver back to the generic one.
Any ideas on how to overcome this?

Solution
Start Regedit registry editor and add/change key like this
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000]
"KMD_EnableBrightnessInterface2"=dword:00000001

if the key exists with 1 already, maybe setting to 0 will help.

I have checked Asus' website out naturally, but the drivers there are, as usual, years old. On my Lenovo I have to use leshcat's custom drivers else I would get bluescreens - and lenovo doesnt update their drivers at all. Here at this Asus I tried generic drivers from AMD website as well as leshcat's catalyst 13.4 and 13.1, all to same result - installs fine, backlight turns off and fun's over.
