Hi guys this may be a really stupid question to ask but I was planning to build a gaming rig for the living room for split-screen gaming. And certain games I can run in different windows like say Modern Warfare 1 and Counter-Strike Source and I was wondering maybe i could use multiple USB sound cards to output to 4 different people.Any ideas.Viable?

How would they control it?

To answer the question yes you can. There is a small issue of finding programs willing to work with the non primary sound card, but it works. For example mobile DJs will use the second sound card to queue up the next song while the music plays on the primary sound card. If I understand what you want to do however isn't similar. You want 4 people to play the same game on a single monitor/TV using only one computer? Your bigger issue is getting a single computer to run four games at once.

Mhmm yes that could be an issue. But I guess an i7 and a GTS 250 would be enough? I mean my i5 and 310M runs two Modern Warfares at decent frame rates. And my laptop overheats and throttles itself within minutes

Well until you find a solution for the controller problem I don't see this happening. CSS will be another problem as steam lets you run only one copy of steam at a time, and AFAIK you can only run each game once. Your mates will need to either bring their own computers, or perhaps use consoles which do support this.

Well I got a solution. 4 Xbox Controllers/PS2/PS3/Any Other Controller via USB.Then well if you google hard enough you'll find that you can run multiple instances of GoldSrc games and Source Engine games. But I guess Source games don't allow for seperate audio outputs to different devices?
