so i heard you need a bios update to run the AMD fx-6300 on most motherboards. But would it need a bios update for the ASRock 970DE3/U3S3

I don't think i do and i really don't hope i do but can someone answer me this?

The ASRock utility will flash BIOS upgrades easily for you. I updated my BIOS 4 times a year to stay current. My board's BIOS was already old when my board shipped. Not a deal breaker.

Yes, it does. P1.60. Check the CPU support List.
Depending on the manufacture date, the board might have the right BIOS to support the CPU.

Yup .... with BIOS P1.60 as noted BUT

It's not really a 970-chipset motherboard (SHAME! on AsRock), it's a 770-chipset with a 710 South-bridge.

You really need something like the Asus M5A97 R2.0 motherboard for £72.96 (real 970-chipset with SB950) to see the full potential of your FX-6300 Piledriver.

Yes, you can use flashback with M5A97 R2.0. It's easy and you can flash the BIOS even if the CPU is not supported.

With M5A97 R2.0 is similar. You will find in the manual all the necessary instructions.

If this is strictly a gaming rig, consider a Phenom II X4 965 - 3.4 Ghz AM3 Black Edition CPU at £73.99 with the AH-sues M5A97 R2.0.

If you can stretch your budget £20, put it toward your video card or an SSD.

yeah gaming rig and for school work
i was looking at one of those but i find streaming fun and so having the extra 2 cores is a huge boost for that
i managed to find a gtx 650 ti boost 2gb OC for £109.99 which i think isnt a bad price so it should last a few years till the 700 series or whatever is next comes out

The 650ti is a great card. The Sapphire HD 7790 at £126.23 is even better.

Even mo' better: You are within shouting distance of the HD7850 at £135.

unfortunatley i had already ordered the fx 6300 and the GTX 650 ti boost 2gb so yeah.. but im sure the gtx 650 ti boost is better than the 7790 or am i wrong??
