I'm building a gaming computer. I'm keeping to a budget, not a tight one but still a budget. I'm wondering i5, i3 or an AMD alternative.

My other specs.
8gb Corsair Vengence RAM
GTX 660 GPU
Corsair Carbide 300r
Corsair 500W Builder series PSU

Thanks in advance, and if you see any flaws or just general improvements in my specs. please tell me as it is my first build.

It really does come down to your budget.

Personally I'd recommend an i5 for the quad core. There are some games that will run better with 4 cores vs the 2 cores of the i3.

I am biased towards Intel chips vs AMD chips. In most cases Intel out performs AMD in games.

I'll let someone more familiar with the AMD chips respond which AMD chip you should go with.

Yeah an i5 is worth it if you can afford it. Otherwise it's the i3 vs. something like an FX-6350. I might be inclined to pick the 6350 there. Slower cores, but more of them... it varies from game to game, but more and more games will be able to take advantage of the extra cores on the 6350.

Of course, you might also want to wait a few weeks and get one of Intel's new Haswell CPUs.
