Hello guys. I have been researching to build a gaming computer and I am looking at i5-3570k because people said its about the same as 3770k for gaming.

Doing a random google search I found this page: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html

I am wondering: Why is the i5 and even the i7 far down on this list if they are best for gaming? I understand theres A TON of things people do with computers that would require those very expensive ones but that huge list makes me question if the i5 is the best I would want for gaming?

If someone could help me understand what those really expensive ones are for and why the i5-3570k (being about halfway down on that list) is still my best bet for a high-performance gaming machine. Thanks in advance.

i5 is the best option because it offers the best bang for buck.you can easily OC it over 4.4 with proper cooling and its gaming performance is also exceptional.and it does offer close to same performance as core i7-3770K. i heard the same thing about intel core i5-2500K and core i7-2600K or 2700K im not sure. only difference between them is hyper threading.you wont need that in gaming.

You're attempting to compare server (8C/16T) and extreme processors (6C/12T) to a home desktop processor (4C/8T).

It's kinda like trying to compare a Ferarri to standard everyday car.

Do you want to go 200+ or do you want to get there in a decent amount of time?

Are you willing to pay $4000 for your processor vs $300?

Notice the FX8350 is only about 1200 points better than the i5-3570k while the i7-3770k is only slightly better than that AMD chip that costs half of what the 3770k does?

Just thought I would point that out...

Funny how even the FX8140 Bulldozer is actually ahead of the i5-3570k there...

Passmark has some interesting results.

Most of the top ones on the list though are Server chips with 6-8+ cores and therefore can really wring some ridiculous numbers out of some benchmarks.

Not to start a flame war but he's also using a PassMark benchmark to decide on a gaming cpu. 2 completely different things.

I can show you that a top fuel dragster is faster than a NASCAR race car in a straight line but which one am I going to use for a race that has turns in it?

AMD processors have their place but typically they are slower when it comes to gaming.

Yes, I am aware of the Passmark criteria and utilization. However, as games go more heavily threaded, I think that advantage will reveal itself.

It's interesting because from where I came from (China), E3-1230 V2 (server chip) is quite a popular choice. They claim that E3 comes with the power of i7 and the price of an i5. It's too bad Intel won't sell it officially to public.
