I've got an intel i5 2500k. I have the stock cooler. It is not overclocked.
At max load, I get 98deg. C for my cpu temp. That's waay high, I think... So, why is my temp so high? My vCore (unmodified) is 1.125 V and for some reason my PC is underclocking my CPU to 3100MHz (according to AsRock AXTU). What can I do to fix this?

Sounds like a good idea. I don't have any Arctic Silver in my house, but I've got some stuff from radio shack.. Also, how thick of a layer should I apply?

Everybody has their own preferred method for applying it.

Some use the dot in the center while others spread it with an old credit card.

There are tons of guides on the internet showing the many different ways to do it - YouTube has a ton of videos for it too.
