Software engineers could easily put in there could a routine to track stolen tablets, cell phones, sync with DB eg work with police to do so. it would just have to go in sync with the database, and if all the apps what do that then the phone or tablet would be worthless unless they would be using all non mainstream applications. It could be a common routine that would be distributed to all the application developers. the database could be maintained by the police or a third parties such as that party that already maintains a stolen database property. this is just be done once during the programs first installation. When a cell phone or a device legitimately turns up as stolen then that device gets blacklisted and all the applications stop working with it. IF you want to take it one step further into BIG BROTHER it can report the location of the culprit, and disable the phone, or call in the call the location to the police. This is easily done actually. Of course they can easily re-enable the phone. (Firmware flash), but then they would easily be subject to be having it re-disabled. I really don't know why this hasn't been done because all it would take would be the cell for community getting together in order to stop a lot of people from using stolen property. It just takes a software community / corporate world to start carrying one little bit this stop a lot of people from stealing a lot of property.Hell If Google and Apple started doing this just by themselves, The rate of cell phone and tablet software would drop to almost nothing, as far as those who want to use it for data use, or have ANY data application on it. Don't forget phone companies can also push applications down so they could easily track these culprits also. They don't even need the help of the software community. However they push the profits of monthly cell phone bills over desire of others to track stolen property. MB

Congrats for not taking responsibility for yourself - you either lost it or had it somewhere unsafe when it was stolen.

This world thinks that they owed EVERYTHING - take responsibility for your own actions.

Car builders should add every safety feature to their autos - who cares if it actually costs more. Everything should have EVERY option possible to make it safe no matter the cost.

As far as Google and Apple are concerned - you think they care if your device was stolen? It's one more sale for them when you have to replace it.

There are applications that you can put on your device to track them - apparently you didn't have one.

Developer out.
