What I have now:

CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 940 BE OC'd @ 3.4 gHz (AM2+)
GPU: Gigabyte Radeon HD6850 1GB
Ram: 2x DDR2 2GB Goodram @~800 mHz cl 5
PSU: Chieftec 550w
HDD: WD Caviar Green 500 GB
Mobo: ASRock K10N78FullHD-hSLL
Case: 10year old Case
Cooling: None, except for the stock on the CPU

What I want to modernize into :

CPU : Intel i5 3570k OC'd @ 4.5 gHz

RAM: DDR 3 8GB @???? 1600mhz or more if its needed

GPU ,PSU and HDD stays the same.

What I need for the CPU is a new Mobo + Cooling which will come from Case or Case + additional cooler to keep the Intel cold.

It's gonna be a gaming build, for Planetside 2 mostly ( such a CPU hog )

All advice much appreciated, especially from users experienced with cooling OC'd i5 :)

EDIT#1: The PSU Is Around 3 years old.

If you can, I suggest you wait until the release of haswell.

That should bring down the price on their ivy cpus.

Then make a choice.

Nah the PSU is not so old its around 3 years old now and I've just recently OC'd the Phenom which I bought with it to get the extra kick out of it.

Ok it is old, but I'm trying to cut prices anyway by leaving the GPU which is low-mid range I believe.

Will you be upgrading your gpu in the near future. If not, your build is not balanced. You will be running a top level cpu with a gpu that is on par with the 7770. You may find that your new gaming experience will not meet your expectations.

I probably will, but that comes for next modernization, as I right now I need a case and/or cooling devices set for cpu+mobo

Yeah that's definitely true - the prices on CPUs almost never decrease.

GPU ,PSU and HDD stays the same.

No I'd buy a new power supply. Ivy Bridge puts out a higher wattage than that Phenom II does so you would be overloading your power supply by upgrading to a modern Z77 motherboard. Get a Seasonic S12 620W while Newegg has them for $60.
