Yes, both cards will work. But make sure to tell him not to use the drivers on the disc from the gpu, go to the manufacturers website and download the newest drivers. Secondly, go for the 7850, it is a much more powerful card and because he isnt playing at 1080p, he will not suffer from only having 1gb of vram.

i dont think that PSU will run any of those Cards. and650 ti is no where near the performance of a 7850.a better choice would be 650 ti boost edition. but again i dont think it will run on that PSU.
EDIT: 650 ti [non boost editon] will run on that 400watt PSU if your friend doesn't have the mney to upgrade his PSU you can recommend 650ti to him though its about 23-25% worst than 7850 in games

If it's a quality PSU he should be fine, but we will have to wait and see the make and model of the PSU before we can determine whether or not the 7850 will run on the PSU.

boost edition should cost around $170. your friend can go with a Corsair CX500.

but look to this...the 650ti 1GB is giving only 30fps @1280*800 then what about 1440?

Well all reviews can be slated/slanted one way or another. You sorta have to see several out there and try and make an informed decision. Some reviews have dated (older drivers) and some use newer ones, so you have to keep that in mind. I personally would go with the 7850, if that fits your budget, assuming the PSU can handle it (which the 7850 is pretty good on 400-450w PSU's generally). Now I'm not an expert, but you can review several review sites (I'd look at 4-6 sites if possible) and make an informed decision. It's up to you what works best for your budget and situation. Some games favor nVidia and some favor AMD, so keep that in mind too.

Well, I don't really know. the link u gave me shows that 7850 beats in most games and 650ti boost beats it in only bf3.

any way i will show him the bench and let him decide by his self.

thanks for the info.
