Hi guys,

I am new to the PC building scene and am building my first one tomorrow. I'm wanting to know if the hardware i have is going to suitable to overclock my CPU. I have the following:

I7 3770 Ivy Bridge (Non K)
Sapphire HD7950 3gb Vapor-X
Cooler Master 725w PSU
8gb G.Skill RAM
Cooler Master X6 Heatsink.

Cheers.

Nope, or at least not to any significant degree.
Youv got a non-k edition chip, which means it has a locked CPU multiplier. Only way to overclock that is through its Baseclock or through Turbo Boost, which wont let you get near as far as the multiplier would let you.
Your motherboard also plays a factor, but regardless of whether you have a Z77 board or not that chip isnt going to overclock.

GPU can overclock just fine, and the 7900 series overclock like a bat out of hell.

+1 Like Manofchalk said, K edition Intel cpus are easy to overclock, non-K is very difficult to near impossible to get solid results and a stable overclock. If you recently bought the cpu I would try to exchange it for the K edition. Goodluck!
