I would like to add at least 2 Gb of ram and a new PSU for my computer. It can have up to 4 Gb of ram in 4 slots. It requires either DDR2 PC2-3200 400 Mhz or DDR2 PC2-5300 533Mhz speed 240 pin unbuffered SDRAM non-ECC.
Also need a PSU to upgrade from the old 305 W AC 120/230 V ( 50/60 Hz) to something in the 380W to 450W range. I am not changing the motherboard and use it for home use only ( no games).
The PSU has to be be 4"Depth X3.25" Height X 5.75" width to fit the slot. The Mobo is Dell Rev. AO1.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,

According to this link any standard ATX PSU will fit http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/332610-28-dell-dimension-4700-upgrades
You might have to bent a few metal parts of the case, but it is usual situation with Dell, I fitted longer PSU into my Inspiron 570 as well.

This is example of Antec Neo Eco 520 now discontinued model http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371030

So, basically you are looking for 450 watt PSU.

Follow this recommendation http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/323050.aspx

If you want simple answer, I like Corsair so http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100006519%2050001459%2040000058%20600014019&IsNodeId=1&name=401W%20-%20450W or http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100006519%2050001459%2040000058%20600014020&IsNodeId=1&name=451W%20-%20500W
Modular is better for smaller cases.

Hello Jack,

Regarding the PSU please refer the above post (#2).

Yes, your system supports a max memory of 4GB. It has 4 slots and max per slot is 1GB. DDR2 PC2-5300 667Mhz is better than DDR2 PC2-3200 400MHz and DDR2 PC2-4200 533MHz.

For 2GB of memory(RAM) the best option would be to go with two 1GB modules. This way you can leave the other slots empty for possible future upgrade, which is always an advantage. But if you go with 512MB modules i.e 4 x 512MB then all the four slots will be occupied which means when you need an upgrade in the future you will have to replace or ditch the 512MB module/s to make way for the 1GB modules. Hence, 2 x 1GB is the best option. Also you can add 2 x 1GB with the existing memory (already present).

If you have any queries let me know. Good luck with the upgrade. ;)
