My dad is buying me a new computer with the i5 and 7870 XT. I told him I'm doing AutoCad, but I want to play games, that's why I'm getting such an expensive computer. They would never buy a computer for me just for gaming. Then my fucking brother came over and said I don't need a $250 GPU for AutoCad (which is true). Now I need some applications that rely heavily on he graphics card so I can fabricate another lie. Please help me out here.

More about : applications lot gpu power

Well the newer GPUs certainly have acceleration features for auto-cad. If you need another reason, blender would suite your needs. It's a 3d modeling software used to makes models, movies, and games which requires a beefy video card.

Tell him that you will need it for 3D rendering. Video Editing and Stuff. and your Brother is an Idiot. for Autocad, the more gpu power, the better.

LMFAO. No. We are not going to help you lie to and steal from your parents. What a joke. Use your own money for the GPU. Or just be grateful you get anything.

And don't use profanity. Go read the forum rules.

Freaking unbelievable. You're all skipping the part where he's lying about using autocad in the first place. And couldn't afford the license if he can't afford a gpu

Bitcoin mining actually does rely on GPU grunt, video editing applications can also leverage OpenCL and GPGPU computing. Folding@Home is another that benefits greatly from a stronger graphics card.

Though really, you think he's going to buy that your suddenly interested in protein folding immediately after your AutoCad lie was just exposed?

I am not 100% lying, I AM CURRENTLY taking an engineering class that utilizes AutoCad. I will probably take a video editing class next year, since that is a program that utilizes lots of GPU power. And how am I to generate income if I am not eligible for work? I don't receive an allowance, and I am constantly absorbed with school, friend, basketball etc. My school gives me an AutoCad license for free. So please don't go and slander my post without any sophisticated facts.

And to the others, thanks for the answer, 3d modeling is the way to go.
