Greetings, I'm new here and this would be my 1st thread ive posted today.

I am currently working on a new rig, though this would be the 1st time i would be building on my own. (The last machine i had built was back in 06' when i was a kid and had help, so i knew nothing at the time). However I'm still a bit naive about what parts i need and the specification i should worry about.

Approximate Purchase Date: Unknown (I started the purchase back in september of 2012, until a financial backlash causing me to stop and continue in march of this year) but the date i will start purchasing is by the end of this month (may)

Budget Range: $1000-1200 (May increase if i can return the CPU(doubt it) and PSU)

System Usage from Most to Least Important: 3D rendering, Gaming, Other

Are you buying a monitor: Maybe (I may use a tv monitor through an HDMI hook up, if this is advised against, let me know)

Parts to Upgrade: All (New Build) (except for the case)

Do you need to buy OS: No ( will be using a copy of Windows 7 a friend of mine has left over )

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg, TigerDirect/Compusa/Bestbuy, Amazon.

Location: Chicago, IL, USA

Parts Preferences: Intel, ASUS, EVGA, Corsair, G.Skill(Memory wise)

Overclocking: Maybe (though i'm not sure it would be worth it)

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe in the future

Your Monitor Resolution: Unknown

Additional Comments: I was zealous when i began purchasing parts and bought a CPU (Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz) before i was fully ready to purchase all at once, not knowing its being discontinued.

And also a CORSAIR HX Series HX750 750W PSU (I felt confident, but im not sure if 750 was enough or if the components were efficient)

I currently have a case that is the only part i'm rather content with (Antec Eleven Hundred)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129178&Tpk=Antec%20eleven%20hundred&IsVirtualParent=1

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Ive been away from the PC gaming world for a long time, and seeing as its looking much prettier now a days i'd like to return. That and i'm dabbling in the world 3D modeling and animation (and i'm not real keen on buying a MAC just for the 3D rendering alone)

CPU is fine. Sandy bridge is still a solid platform.
PSU is also fine.
Case should be ok.

I would look for a Z77 motherboard if you want to do any overclocking: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131837
And you would also need an aftermarket CPU cooler if you OC.

The GPU choice depends on what you are using for 3d rendering. Some software is more optimized for NVidia's CUDA but some uses openCL which AMD is faster at.

What i was worried about with the CPU is that although sandy bridge is still solid unit and still around, i'm seeing there are fewer of them at the 2600k model, and hoping to make my machine future proof. (if i can go just as well with the CPU, how long before should probably upgrade to a newer or current gen model)

I figured as much with PSU, I was told that i should shoot for 1000 but that seemed pretty ridiculous to go that high right now.

I have a wishlist in newegg with the parts i had set aside before i was about to purchase. The mother i picked out is expensive, but my concern was its interaction with the CPU to make sure it was compatible long term (less chance of one of them burning out there other in the future)

Heres the motherboard i have set in the wishlist :ASUS P8Z77-V DELUXE LGA 1155 Intel Z77 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131837)

Heres the GPU as well : EVGA 02G-P4-3660-KR GeForce GTX 660 Ti 2GB 192-bit (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130809)

Well Haswell will be changing the socket so it will really not be much less future proof then the Ivy bridge. It should still be a solid performer for 3 years+.

Agreed.

Motherboard is compatible. As I said before Haswell is changing the socket so the upgrade path will be limited but this is normal for all builds right now.

Z77 is the chipset for enthusiasts.

Should be fine.

3 years? that is exceptable, by that time i can afford to loosen the coin purse for newer gens (biggest concern was having to replace a part i just bought a year ago because incompatibility and lack of support)

Last, here is the parts i'm choosing all together for this build

Case: Antec Eleven Hundred Black Super Mid Tower Computer Case
CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz
PSU: CORSAIR HX Series HX750 750W
GPU: EVGA 02G-P4-3660-KR GeForce GTX 660 Ti 2GB 192-bit
MOBO: ASUS P8Z77-V DELUXE LGA 1155 Intel Z77
AU: ASUS Xonar DGX 5.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz
RAM: : G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)
HDD: : Western Digital WD Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM
OpD: : ASUS DVD Burner

which is a little over $1000 but i can manage

Anyone, please et me know if any of these parts are incompatible, too much, or not enough

If not, i can pretty much just order them right now if there are no issues

and thanks for helping me out (sorry if i'm breaking some rules, first time asking online for help with this)
