Best Monitor Calibration?

Hi everyone, I am trying to calibrate my monitor (Brightness, Contrast, Color, etc.).

Is there a site I can use, or do I have to use a certain program for best results?

More about monitor calibration
  1. You can't really calibrate a monitor without a actual device like the spyder or something similar. those cost betwen $80-500.

or you can hire someone to do it for you with their tools for $20-30 i think...

killer got it right; if you want hardware calibration, then you're out of luck unless you're willing to buy calibration tools (expensive) or unless you want to find a way to rent them (less expensive, but I haven't tried it).

For most of us mere mortals, though, calibrating by eye works well enough. You can use a site like the following to eye it up for yourself: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/

After that, if your monitor still isn't behaving to your satisfaction, you might have better luck using your OS's color management.
  3. I have one more question. When choose color standards on your monitor, is it better to go with cool, warm, or normal?
  4. Depends on your preference. I prefer slightly cooler colors so I set my monitor's color temperature to something like 8400k and I tweak from there.
