My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-970A-D3 can it support dual graphics cards (crossfire), Also do graphics have to be the same Brand and Model or just Model to work in crossfire?

You've got crossfire, but it's x16, x4, which is really not very amazing.

You don't even need the same model, actually, just the same chip; you can pair a 7950 with a 7970. It's pointless, since the 7970 would downclock to match the 7950, but hey.

Only thing to pay attention to is the new boost versions vs the old non-boost versions; I don't believe they play nicely together.

On crossfire they do not have to be the same brand. just same model.

Your board is semi crossfire compatible. you have 1x16 slot @16x and one 16x slot@4x.
You can crossfire cards on you board but you will lose performance because the second slot is 4x wiring on a 16x slot.

Ok sorry just wanted to add one more thing, If i add two different Gfx cards, Could i use the extra one to display one monitor which i use for films mainly, And my other card for gaming without the extra card slowing down the Current card or impeding it whilst gaming

i know it wouldn't support sli, the reason i asked was i saw a Radeon hd7770 for 65 euro(shop was going out of business) i was thinking of buying two and using crossfire, but in order to support them i would have needed a new psu and now a better mobo
