usb / ps2 not working

asrock 970 extreme 3, 8150, ati 5670, Corsair Vengeance Blue 16 ram my question is the ps2 ports work in the bios both mouse and keyboard but when i try to install win 7 the ps2 mouse and key board stop working like no power and usb 2.0 or 3.0 not working at all so i cant flash bios from 1.40

so what could be shutting down ps2 and usb from working. i went in to the bios and turned on every thing still nothing

  1. Hi,
Have you tested different USB ports and still the same? Are you installing from DVD or USB?

yes i have tried all usb ports that were on the back of the mobo they are dead all the time but the ps2 only go dead after the bios screen flashes

it works enough to hit any key to boot from dvd then win 7 load files then after that ps2 stops working both kboard and mouse so i cant move the mouse to next to finish installing win 7

The PS2 connection is only for the "1 x PS/2 Keyboard Port" (purple) as per the link unless your version is different.

The usb ports above the PS2 port are USB 2.0 - USB 2.0 Ports (USB_0_1)
The usb ports next to jacks are usb 2.0 - USB 2.0 Ports (USB_2_3)
The usb ports left of them, the blue ones, are usb 3.0 USB 3.0 Ports (USB3_0_1)

As per the 17.5mb PDF manual ! (If I'd realised it was 17.5mb I wouldn't have downloaded it). :(

Edit - I just noticed in the manual that the picture is showing a different motherboard as to what is ahown on the web page, the manual image shows both purple and green PS 2 ports.
Actually, I've goofed, I"ve been looking at the wrong motherboard, at the Z77 Extrreme3 and not the 970 extreme 3 but even so, just to make a point, the manual image is still different to the site pixcture, for the Z77. hmmm...

All I really need to know is what version your motherboard is - 970 Extreme3 R2.0 or 970 Extreme3

The green is for the mouse and the purple is for the keyboard.
I'll get back about the other things, later, I'm still sobbing about the goof up and the 17.5mb download pdf. :(

It might be a board issue. Can you RMA it?
  5. If the keyboard works, you just use the Tab key to move the focus to the next button.

Edit - What is your PSU? If it is under-powered, there is not enough power to do much of anything ...

    Edit2 -
I think there is a setting in the bios to enable PS2 mouse / keyboard but is disabled by default even though the mouse and keyboard work in the bios.
