copying files onto modern external hard drive

I need to copy some files from my old ME computer. It won't recognize 'modern' USB hardware

It may be that the USB drive is formatted with NTFS, which WinME can't access. (It would need to be in FAT32 to be accessible from ME.)

Your best bet is probably either to take the hard drive out of the ME PC and attach it to the new machine (either directly or using a USB-ATA adaptor) or connect both PCs to a network and transfer the files that way.

If its got a cd burner use that or get a usb to ide adaptor and have someone handy with a screw driver remove the hard drive for you.

getting a 15 year old os to play ball might be difficult due to people forgetting how to diagnose and fix it I've personally long since forgotten how i repeatedly fixed my terrible Windows 98 Pc so advice on getting it working might be thin. pulling the drive out would be the fastest and easiest imo
