Greetings Guys,

I usually leave my computer to shut down automatically, however, I tried doing a Force Shut Down today as the dialog usually comes up. For some reason it always comes up with uTorrent being one of the programs running. I had Chrome opened and a few folders opened too.

Am I in trouble?

If you have installed uTorrent, then you're not in trouble. You need to make sure the program is not set to start when Windows starts (into settings or preferences). Also, if this fails, you can use the command msconfig (in Start> search box, type msconfig then ENTER) and under the startup tab uncheck the services and programs you don't want to start with the OS, OK and reboot.
If you don't recall ever installing uTorrent, then yes, you are in trouble. Someone else has accessed your system (locally or remotely) and your security is compromised. Full wipe and reinstall the OS, along with changing your credentials and so on.

I have AntiVir installed and I update it daily with virus definitions. Moreover, I do a weekly full system scan and my system is up to date with the latest Windows Updates. I don't see how anyone can access my computer remotely or plant a Trojan or virus file. I just experimented a while ago, closed utorrent and chrome, and I got a blank list of programs that are still running in the background. I guess it had something to do with the remaining processes still running. What do you think?

Certain programs call processes that still run in the background after the Shutdown command has been initiated, hence the system is waiting for those processes to terminate, as well. It usually takes no more than a few moments, then the shutdown proceeds. It is the OS which tries to save the data accessed by these programs before it shuts down, a normal behavior for Win7 (at least). Nothing abnormal here, it happens all the time.
