External Hard Drive Problem

OK so i took a 2.5" hard drive out of my old laptop and i bought a cheap external hard drive enclosure off eBay. The problem i am having is that if i plug it into my PC it doesn't spin up but makes a clicking noise instead. I tried it on two other laptops I have in my house and it spins up perfectly and gets detected by the laptops. Any idea what the problem is?

Does the external enclosure have it's own power supply? There may be an issue with the having enough power to the drive.

No it doesn't it just works off the USB cable. Its a standard USB to USB cable like its not a USB to micro USB or anything like that.

I bet it has to do with the power output of your USB connectors on the computer. If you need it on that computer, you can try a powered USB hub like this one:

I use this as a stand alone charger at work for my cell phone, and at home, it charges the cell phone along with other devices.
