I don't mean completely dead, but on it's way out....what kinds of things would it do?
I just got a 2000 Presario desktop with the original 17 gb WD hard drive, Win98/ XP dual boot. There were some error messages about missing files in both installs and the hd was noisy to boot, so I did a Scandisk; wasn't even 1/4 of the way through and it had over 100 bad sectors. Stopped Scandisk and ran Seatools; failed both tests, SMART tripped. I put it in an old Dell GX-1 I have....soon as bios came up, I got a message like "WARNING; hard disk operating outside of design parameters, Dell recommends backing up files and replacing disk before data is lost". Oh, and as a last resort I tried to reformat it...I got an error message about how it couldn't be reformatted due to disk damage.
I love stuff like that....you have any stories?
