Hey im planing on upgrading my computer from 8gb DDR2 to 8 gb DDR3 and i have looked around for a budget set of motherboard and memory and found cheap.
So Question are if these will work together, i read on the specification for the motherboard certain memory speeds wont work with certain CPU's

* AMD FX Series CPU on this motherboard supports up to DDR3 1866MHz as its standard memory frequency.
* AMD AM3 100 and 200 series CPU support up to DDR3 1066MHz.

The componets
Asus M5A78L LE motherboard
AMD Athlon ll x4 635
Crucial 8GB (2x4096MB) CL9 1600Mhz Ballistix Sport

I couldn't find any information on if my CPU supports 1600Mhz DDR3 memorys or not so turning here for answers

Faster memory can run at slower speeds, so if you buy 1600, it will likely run at 1066, but still work fine. You might get lucky and it will let you run "overclocked" at higher RAM speeds, but at a bare minimum it will work.

Now I will say, you aren't going to notice any real benefit moving from DDR2 to DDR3 and using the same processor.

It will default at 1066 or 1333, but you won't have any problems running at 1600. I got an Athlon x4 and I have my memory at 1750 right now. I'm not sure if that is the norm with these chips but I had multiple Athlons that handle 1600 with no problems.

Would it be better to keep my old motherboard and stay at DDR2 memory and just upgrade from 8 to 16gb? i need to get my framerates higher some of the games i play i can't play above 20 fps at the lowest settings

now i use a Asus M4a77 motherboard

What video card do you have and what games? Your processor and video card are the most likely culprits, RAM can make a difference, but it is probably that last 5% of the equation, whereas Video and CPU are about 90% of what makes up performance in games.

More RAM only helps when you are low on RAM. 99% of video games do not use more than 2GB because they are made to be 32 bit compatible. BF3 with huge multiplayer barely breaks 1GB of RAM usage. So essentially, you are barking up the wrong tree chasing more memory. You already have more than you need.

I don't know what brand it is but its a 500 watt, it's also 11 years old so maybe i should upgrade to a stronger graphic and new memory if i can afford it? i have a budget of about 150 $

This is one of those cases where you are going to want to start upgrading everything. Right now, I'd start with a Video card, maybe a GTX 650 Ti or a Radeon 7790.

Next, you could replace your memory to get ready for a DDR3 board.

Then Upgrade to a AM3+ board with FX support.

Then finally jump to a FX-6300 or FX-8300 series processor. Over time you should be able to do it in $100-200 chunks at a time and end up with a great rig.

If your PSU is really 11 years old, replace that when you upgrade RAM, before the new MB or CPU.

Then ill probaly get to upgrade the graphic even though its only 3 years old. I won't update memory until i get a new motherboard since i can only use DDR2 memory on this one. The PSU i won't upgrade until i have to to power the components so far it's working good for me. Im not after an super computer i got more important stuff to spend my money on. i just want to end my fps fluctuation from 100 down to 10 about 20 times a second.
