Ok, so this is pretty much my final build. BUT, I'm still trying to keep a certain budget and was wondering about cutting somet things in favor of a better video card.

Here are my two options (Microcenter, with tax included):

Asus M5A97 AND AMD FX8350=257.14

OR

Core i5-3570k and ASROCK LGA1555 Z77=311.85

Factor in the new Haswells next month and things have gotten more complicated. What do you guys think? AMD might last longer since they rarely change motherboards. And I know that the intel is overal better @ single threaded apps.

please halp!

In your shoes, I would wait for Haswell. The LGA 1150 socket will last for a while, so you'll probably match AMD for motherboard longevity.

However, if the savings from the AMD would allow you to fit a 7870 XT on there, I would go with that. It blows the 7870 out of the water in terms of performance.

So it's best to wait? I guess I'lll have to do that. I wasn't planning on finishing my set up until maybe the first week of june. Hopefully Microcenter has some haswells by then.

I might get the XT. I just found out about it so I'm researching on good prices. That and the CPU cooler is next on my list to get.

The 7870 XT is a wonderful high-mid GPU right now. It really should be called a 7930 given that it's in the Tahiti, not the Pitcairn family.

Ok.Update. So ATT just sent me $200 in gift cards. Only problem is they gave me a $150 one and a $50 one. I want to get the GPU, but most online reatilers let me use one card at a time.

Are there any brick and motor stores that have the 7870XT?

Hmm....

Well, is NewEgg the only one that carriers the 7870xt? There's slim pickin's on the online front and I can't find it on Microcenters website.

I'm just trying to get the best value for my dollar. What do you suggest I do?

You left out the HDD so I can only assume that you already have one.

crap. I'm gonna edit my list to add a drive.
and
7870XT vs 660Ti? Are they even?

It varies. I don't like any of the games in the pack, yet wanted a Ghz. On the other hand, my friends were very happy about it, so I suppose that worked it.

GTX 660TI would be my choice if you catch a good sale.
I bought my EVGA GTX 670SC 4 gig for $325 shipped and only slightly used on eBay and it still has warranty for 2.5 years. All newer EVGA cards warranty follows the card 3 years from date shipped.
I like to play Borderlands 2 and that favors nvidia

The graphics card hierarchy (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html) and the 7870 LE/XT/Tahiti review (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/tahiti-le-7870-7930-benchmark,3401-3.html) beg to differ.
