Overclocking i5 760 and voltage.

Hello,

I just started to overclock my CPU i5 760 since I think it's getting kind of slow. I use my computer mostly for gaming. I have accomplished OC my CPU from 2,8 to 3,36 with stock voltage and Turbo disabled (I can't get it stable with that on). I have managed to keep Speedstep and C1E however. There is also a choice in my bios to go with easy clocking (Mobo: Asrock P55 Pro). The first step there is 3,6 ghz with CPU voltage = 1,28. With that enabled I'm experiencing some high temps. Do you think I should lower the voltage little by little from there with the same clock and try how stable it is? Is that safe or am I thinking wrong here?

I would also like for the Voltage to decrease when the CPU is not under heavy load but that seems impossible with a set voltage. There is something called Vdrop (?) but I have no idea what that is.

Thanks!

Thanks for the answer. I'm not using the stock cooler. I have a cooler master hyper tx3 right now. With the oc at 3,36 and voltage on auto the temp is around 60 c full oad on prime95 and idle about 34 c. When oc at 3,6 at full load the temp is about 70c but after a awhile 80c and then I turned it off.

You can slowly lower the voltage and keep checking if its stable at the new settings. You always try to get as high clock as possible with as low volt as possible. Normally i raise the volt a bit more then what is probably needed to then slowly lower the volt untill i find a point where it runs stable.
Personally i dont like it when my processor goes above 75c however if it reaches 75c(ish) in programs like prime95 thats still okay. As it will most likely never be under such a load again. Depending of course on what you do on your computer.

How much you lower is up to you however perhaps going down 0,01 will do it for you. It might take a while as you lower it so little each time. Doing small changes will let you find the sweet spot easier but it takes more time. Nothing says you have to finish it in one day though. Normally i go down in slow steps and when i find the spot where it gets instable i increase the it by a extra step.
For example 1.26 works but 1.25 dont, then i normally step one higher, to 1.27.

The closet thing to a 760 i had was my i7 920. Cant say i can remember what i had the VTT set to though.
If i remember right having the VTT as low as possible (while still stable) is of course good, however i dont have a clue to how (roughly) much it should be set too.
