Screen shot of temps

HWMonitor shows CPU temp 35C
Also shows under AMD-FX6100 "package" temp 18C

Coretemp shows CPU #0 18C, same as package temp above

Which to I pay attention to when overcocking?

Also, I can't see core temps. I read somewhere that fx chips dont show it, but I saw some other guy post an hwmonitor image showing all 8 core temps for his 8150.

Try Hwinfo64. With the FX line your package temp is your core temp. The CPU temp you are seeing that is higher is the socket temp. I was stumped by this issue for quite awhile myself, going from a 965 BE to an FX line that read completely differently.

18 degrees is cooler than room temperature (18 C = 64 F). I'd be highly suspect of any reading being colder than about 25 degrees for an active processor cooled by air.

AMD has stated that the FX sensors are not accurate under 40c, once over 40c you can ensure accuracy. For the op, if you are concerned with the temp you should contact AMD referring to the sensor and at what temps an accurate reading should be taken. My 8350 likes to idle around 15-20c, which is impossible seeing my gameroom is warmer than that. Once the cpu hits load temps above 40c everything seems to be pretty accurate from their.

And if you think why the CPU would have a thermometer, it is to check for overheating, so it makes sense not to calibrate it for the low end of the spectrum. Honestly, the temperature is irrelevant until it hits about 50 on AMD and 70 on Intel. Before that, it's all good no matter what it is.

Thanks for the replies. I'll keep this info in mind while monitoring temps.
