Attempting A New Three Monitor Setup

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: The next time a card is on sale
BUDGET RANGE: ~300-400$

USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: I plan on doing a lot of gaming. I plan on running splashtop on the PC to game on my Tablet. I want to have PhysX, if possible, work if I can (absolutely love the Batman games).

CURRENT GPU AND POWER SUPPLY: (GTX 465, 950W PSU)

OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS: AMD 1055T x6 CPU (not overclocked currently)
MSI 870A-G54 motherboard (2x2 gb 1866 ram)

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Newegg
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: USA

PARTS PREFERENCES: The best that fits in the price range.

OVERCLOCKING: Maybe.

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1920x1080 (soon to be 5760 x 1080)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What I was hoping for was a nice, unbiased idea as to which card would hold up better at higher resolutions. The only two cards in my price range to do the job, I hear, is an ATI 7970 or a GTX 680.

The biggest thing for me is bang for the buck. I want to have a better gaming experience than ever before. Splashtop is supposedly able to fullscreen only on NVIDIA cards (which is minor overall), and I read physx is much easier/quality with a Nvidia card being the main card (I would be able to use the GTX 465 as my PHYSX card).

What have I missed? What else is there? Which one should I buy? Make up my mind for me!

Thanks in advance.

I'm running surround with a single 670 2gb. I sold off my second 670 and plan to sell this one most likely. I want to upgrade to a 4gb or 5gb card here in the next few months.

I can't speak for ati eyefinity, but I have enjoyed dual monitors from my gtx 280 sli and tri monitors since my 560 ti sli setup. The only issue I have ever ran into was the lack of VRAM from the 560 ti's playing bf3

You're correct - VRAM matters for surround setups and for games with lots of additional texture layers/mods like Dragon Age. In all sincerity, I would wait for Nvidia to release the 700 series cards so that you can get bang for your buck. The challenge you're going to experience is that there is only 1 mobo with PciE 3.0 ports at the moment so you're not going to get full utilization of that video card unless you have that ASUS Sabertooth Gen 3 mobo. I am sure there will be other boards that release, but that's the only one I have seen thus far with that feature.

The 780 is going to be on the level of performance of the Titan with a fraction of the price, the 770 is going to be on par with the 680 - that's what I personally am looking at. Until you have a 4k display that needs that kind of muscle I think the 680/770 is all you need for triple display gaming.

GTX670 if you want PhysX. I went with the 7950 because I wanted the games.

I'm really happy I posted this. I was just on the verge of buying, and I didn't even know the new line of cards were coming out -THIS MONTH-.

I'm sold now on the GTX 770. The 780 seems like it's going to be too expensive, but the 770 seems to be a really good solution; faster and cheaper than the 680.

Thank you all very much for your time.

To my knowledge they aren't. The Titan LE is supposed to be out this month. Last I heard Nvidia said GTX7xx cards early 2014.

Possible release this week, or the 23rd for 770 and 780. Then the rest will follow over the next months

There hasn't been anything definitive - until I see specs on manufacturer's models and their release date, I am going to hold tight. At this point, June is the earliest we could possibly expect to see the early models.

Speculative specs... Google it. Toms has info on it as we'll.

From what I have noticed, ATI cards get less features like adaptive v-sync and phys-x but are usually faster by a tad, and sometimes even cheaper, but they also from my experience get hot cause they take more power. If you spend the extra bucks to get the best id get a 680 or 670 or wait for the new AMD and Nvidia cards to come out and see what they bring to the table. Only thing I can think of is that you wont be getting full PCI-3.0 capability with your current setup if you upgrade, but i can highly reccomend the Asus Sabertooth 990-FX Gen3.0 R2 as I have it with an AMD FX-8350 at 5 GHZ and am loving it!
