I've long been a lurker of the forum, but have never really posted. My current computer is 6 years old and it's time to upgrade so I'm building one out.

Desired Price Range: At or below $1500
Main Usage (ordered by rank): Gaming, Music Producing, Video Editing (rarely)
Goal: Computer that will last me a few years and be fairly quiet when not maxing out FPS on games.

CPU: Intel Core i7-3770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V LK ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage: Seagate Constellation ES 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB Video Card
Case: Fractal Design Define R4 w/Window (White) ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: PC Power & Cooling Silencer MK III 500W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V Power Supply
Keyboard: Microsoft SIDEWINDER X4 Wired Gaming Keyboard

I've not listed a monitor, optical drive or OS since I have all these already (Windows 7 64-bit).

Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated. See any weak links? Or are any components overkill?

Thanks in advanced!

How often are you going to be doing music production? I pretty much guarentee it's not often enough to warrant $100; the i7 performs exactly the same as an i5-3570k for gaming.

I'd avoid that hard drive - look at the Western Digital blues, and take the $100 you saved above and buy yourself an SSD.

For a couple more pucks, you can get a 7870 XT, which will be far more powerful of a graphics card.

Finally, where are you buying from? This shouldn't all cost $1500...

As DarkSable said, if you don't do a lot of music or video production, you can save quite a lot. That said, here is my alternative to your present build:

You can shave the price down a bit by dropping the SSD down to an 840, if needed.

Thanks for the advice. You're probably right that the amount of music producing I'll be doing doesn't warrant an i7... which will allow me to pick up a 128gb SSD and bump the graphics card and come out at a price point around $1270.
